Yep, this game doesn't allow you to play alone, or co-op with AI. You have to really play with your friends both offline and online. The reason? All missions in this game can only be completed together.
Each player will play the main character in this game, Vincent and Leo. Although the main theme is co-op, but not only throughout the game you must always play together. There are times when one player controls his character, another player must watch a cutscene from another character. So even though there is a cutscene, the game can continue to run for one other player.
Because story driven, then what happens next in your game will be determined by the decision you took in the previous scenario. In each mission, you can determine whether to solve it "well" such as by negotiating, or maybe making a fuss to divert wardens so that you can be free to get out of a room.
Not just running away from prison. Even after escaping from prison you still have to play together to complete the game. So, you are guaranteed not to complete this game yourself, or just play alone in one section. You must continue together on each mission! Your cooperation will determine the success in completing the mission.
